1. Betty & Barney Hill — New Hampshire, 19–20 September 1961

Chronology

Betty (social worker) and Barney (postal worker), an interracial couple from Portsmouth, NH, drive home from Montreal on US Route 3 through the White Mountains. Night of 19–20 Sept 1961: bright object observed, stop, figures perceived, then ~2 hours of missing time. They arrive home late, notice abraded shoes, watch anomalies, and later Betty’s nightmares. Betty notifies Pease AFB. Civilian investigators and eventually Dr. Benjamin Simon’s hypnosis sessions (1964) produce the detailed boarding/exam narrative that John G. Fuller publishes as The Interrupted Journey (1966). NBC’s The UFO Incident (1975) cements the story in mass culture. UNH later archives the Hill papers (MC 197).

Beings

Hypnosis drawings and transcripts describe bipedal figures with large wraparound eyes — the cultural ancestor of the “grey.” Barney’s sessions emphasize fear and a “leader”; early language sometimes carries a hostile/military color that later folklore softens into clinical calm. Betty’s star-map drawing, later matched by Marjorie Fish to Zeta Reticuli, becomes a public exhibit and a methodological controversy (pattern-matching under hypnosis ≠ astronomy).

Government / investigation paper

Pease AFB took the initial call. Project Blue Book’s culture was sighting classification, not validated boarding. NICAP and civilian networks carried the public file. The Hill papers at UNH include hypnosis transcripts, Air Force correspondence, dress analysis notes, and subject files — the archival spine Cosmolink prefers over TV recreations.

Case notes — what the paper trail actually holds

Physical claims to weigh separately: shoe abrasion, watch stoppage/desync, car marks, dress damage analyses in the papers. None equals a recovered non-terrestrial device in a published lab chain. Cosmolink keeps residues on the “interesting, unproven” shelf.

Hypnosis method notes

Simon’s sessions are separate for Betty and Barney. Betty’s nightmare content exists before full hypnotic product — a contamination flag Cosmolink always lists beside the star map. Fuller’s book selects and frames; it is journalism married to regression, not a lab notebook. When later CE-4 culture treats Hills as “the first,” it means first American mass-media template — Villas Boas and other international files complicate “firstness.”

Cosmolink take Hills invent American CE-4 grammar: craft, beings, exam, amnesia, hypnosis recovery. Treat Simon’s transcripts as contaminated memory products. Keep Pease/Blue Book paper separate from later TV expansions. The star map is reception history, not a navigation fix.

Cosmolink take Hopkins/Mack-era media made greys default. Older and non-US cases (Villas Boas, Pascagoula, Ariel) are the corrective sample.

Cosmolink refuses a single-species catalog. What follows is a typology of reports, not a field guide to confirmed biologies.

Greys

Large cranium, black almond eyes, thin limbs, small mouth/nose — crystallized after the Hills’ public life and 1970s–90s media. They dominate experiencer literature and TV. Earlier cases (Pascagoula, Villas Boas) do not always fit the costume.

Pascagoula / wrinkled robotic

Elephant-skin texture, claws/pincers, slit features, mechanical gait. A reminder that 1973 Mississippi did not borrow 1990s Hollywood greys.

Nordics / human-looking

Tall, fair, human-passing figures appear in Walton and in contactee-era lore. Sometimes framed as “teachers” versus grey “technicians” in New Age taxonomies — a folklore split Cosmolink notes without endorsing.

Insectoid / mantis

Recurring in late-20th-century experiencer books and forums; often described as supervisory presence over greys. Almost entirely hypnosis/experiencer mediated.

Occupants without classic boarding

Ariel School beings beside a craft; many CE-1/CE-3 cases with figures but no exam narrative. Abduction desks sometimes swallow these; they should stay distinct.

Eric Davis / legacy-program morphologies (contested)

In public talks, Davis has alluded to briefed categories of non-humans inside alleged legacy aerospace programs. Cosmolink files that under Wilson–Davis / AAWSAP-adjacent testimony culture — claimed, contested, not species science.

Cosmolink take Diversity of reports is either evidence of multiple phenomena or evidence of evolving folklore. Flattening everything to “greys” erases the data either way.

Occupant taxonomy vs folklore drift

Track morphology by case date and method (same-night statement vs decades-later hypnosis). Pascagoula 1973 claws do not match 1990s TV greys; Walton’s dual typology does not match Ariel playground figures. Hopkins/Mack-era media then exports a default grey that later experiencers may unwittingly inherit as vocabulary. Cosmolink’s working rule: date-stamp every entity description and name the interview method beside it.

Physical-trace claims are the abduction desk’s attempt to escape pure narrative: scoop marks, nasal bleeds, geometric bruises, fluorescent stains on skin or fabric, alleged subcutaneous objects removed in informal surgeries, radiation-like burns (Cash–Landrum), and ground traces (rings, dehydrated soil) at supposed landing sites.

Implant lore: From the 1980s onward, Linda Moulton Howe and others platformed stories of metallic or ceramic-looking objects, sometimes claimed to be tracked by military interest. Lab anecdotes circulate; peer-reviewed medicine does not treat “alien implant” as an established diagnosis. Without published metallurgy, pathology, and provenance, Cosmolink keeps implants on the contested shelf.

Method: A scar photo is not a chain of custody. A YouTube removal video is not a lab notebook. Soil samples without documented collection protocol are souvenirs. The desk’s rule matches disclosure: show the paperwork.

Cosmolink take Physical traces are worth pursuing precisely because they could falsify pure fantasy — which is why the standards must be higher, not lower, than for a campfire story.

Jacques Vallée

Computer scientist / ufologist. Passport to Magonia links modern UFOs to older fairy/demon folklore. Later work: “control system” — the phenomenon teaches and manipulates human culture rather than simply visiting as aerospace neighbors. Essential counterweight to nuts-and-bolts-only ET.

Key books for this desk: Passport to Magonia, The Invisible College, Messengers of Deception, Confrontations, Revelations. Vallée’s databases and catalogs also matter — he tried to quantify patterns while refusing the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis as the only game. When Cosmolink says “read Vallée,” we mean: before you baptize every CE-4 as a nuts-and-bolts ET medical program, ask what cultural work the encounter is doing.

Hal Puthoff

Physicist; EarthTech; historical CIA remote-viewing work; later connected to DIA AAWSAP / Bigelow networks and UAP studies. Cosmolink files Puthoff as a bridge between classified curiosity and civilian physics speculation — not as a courtroom witness for boarding narratives.

Eric Davis

Physicist associated with Puthoff’s circle. Central to the Wilson–Davis notes (below). In interviews and lectures he has discussed categories of non-human beings allegedly briefed inside legacy programs — Cosmolink labels those confirmations as claimed / contested, dependent on the same disputed memo ecology and second-hand access stories. Treat as testimony about a subculture of belief inside cleared networks, not as species taxonomy.

Davis has spoken in civilian forums about briefings that allegedly distinguish multiple non-human morphologies inside legacy aerospace compartments. Cosmolink records that as claimed briefings inside a contested document culture — adjacent to Wilson–Davis notes and AAWSAP-era networking — not as a taxonomy you can cite like a field guide. Puthoff’s lane stays physics + program history; Davis’s lane in public ufology became inseparable from the 2019 memo spike.

J. Allen Hynek (bridge figure)

Astronomer, Blue Book scientific consultant, later civilian ufologist. Hynek’s CE-1…CE-4 scale is the vocabulary Cosmolink still uses. On Pascagoula he engages the sheriff and the tape — a Blue Book-era name touching a CE-4 police file after Blue Book’s culture had already narrowed. His arc from skeptic-consultant to open investigator is part of why post-1969 ufology trusts (and over-trusts) credentialed converts.

Budd Hopkins & John Mack — how greys went mainstream

Hopkins (Missing Time, Intruders) industrializes hypnotic investigation and the grey exam script for 1980s America. Mack (Abduction) brings Harvard prestige and spiritual interpretation — and a firestorm over method. Together they make CE-4 appointment television. Cosmolink files them as reception engines: they created the default language many later experiencers used. That contaminates the sample; it does not automatically falsify every case.

Linda Moulton Howe

Emmy-winning journalist who pivoted into cattle mutilations (A Strange Harvest) and then long-form experiencer / implant / disclosure coverage. Impact: she professionalized a TV-doc tone for body-horror + ET. Critics say she over-platforms unverified military sources. Cosmolink reads her as major reception history for abduction-adjacent physical claims.

Howe’s through-line since the late 1970s: something is harvesting biological material (cattle), something is interacting with human bodies (implants/experiencers), and elements of the US security state know more than they say. She interviewed self-described military whistleblowers and kept a documentary urgency that shaped Coast to Coast / conference culture. Critics argue the sourcing is uneven and the conclusions outrun the evidence. Both the influence and the critique belong on the desk.

MJ-12 papers surfaced in ufology in the 1980s (Moore/Shandera film canister lore and later floods of “leaked” sets). They purport a Truman-era committee managing crashed saucers and bodies.

FBI files on Majestic 12 exist because the Bureau investigated the documents as possible forgeries / HOAX materials circulating with official-looking letterhead. NARA and historians have stated no authentic MJ-12 program record has been found in the expected archives. Cosmolink’s stance: read the FBI file; do not run MJ-12 as settled history.

Document sets: The Eisenhower Briefing Document, Truman memo, Cutler-Twining memo, and later “operations manuals” form the popular pack. Debates over typewriters, dating, signature comparison, and provenance have filled books (Friedman vs. skeptics; Woods’ authenticity arguments; FBI HOAX stamps on some copies). Cosmolink’s operational rule: the FBI Vault file is the one government paper trail you can open without buying a conference DVD — and that trail is largely the Bureau reacting to circulating fakes.

MJ-12 matters here because abduction culture inherited its cast list: recovered craft, bodies, special access, presidential briefings. Even if every page is forged, the story shape still structures how experiencers and influencers talk about “what they know.”

Case notes — how to read MJ-12 on this desk

Alleged notes by Dr. Eric Davis of a 2002 conversation with Vice Admiral Thomas Wilson (former Joint Staff J-2 / DIA director). The story: Wilson finds a SAP / contractor program holding non-human craft, is denied access despite tickling the compartment.

Cast: Vice Admiral Thomas R. Wilson (career intel / Joint Staff / DIA leadership roles in the late 1990s); Dr. Eric Davis (EarthTech / Puthoff circle). The notes describe Wilson’s attempt to locate a special access program holding exotic craft, a contractor gatekeep, and a denial of access — “core secrets” language in the leak culture.

Timeline: Meeting dated to ~2002 in the notes’ framing; related Wilson stories circulated among researchers in the 2000s; Imgur upload 19 Apr 2019; viral spike June 2019 after Dolan and others amplified; Black Vault analysis pages followed. Authenticity fights cover handwriting, paper, whether Wilson confirms, and whether the notes are novelistic.

Why Cosmolink keeps it on the abduction desk: the memo’s subtext is that non-human technology (and by implication biology) sits in contractor hands — the same cosmology that makes CE-4 medical claims feel “plausible” to audiences after 2017.

Leak path: Page images uploaded to Imgur ~19 Apr 2019; ufology attention spikes early June 2019 (“leak of the century” framing). Related Wilson denial anecdotes existed in researcher circles earlier (2000s). Authenticity remains contested; Wilson has been associated with denials; handwriting/provenance fights continue. Black Vault hosts analysis and document collections.

Cosmolink take The memo is important as a sociological artifact inside post-AATIP ufology. It is not a stamped DoD release. Keep it next to MJ-12 as “document culture,” not as a trophy.

Blue Book (ended 1969) catalogued sightings; boarding/abduction narratives were never established as physical fact there.

2017–present: NYT AATIP/AAWSAP reporting, Navy videos, UAP Task Force, AOIMSG/AARO, congressional hearings. Stigma dropped for military UAP reporting. That is not the same as DoD validating CE-4 exams or hybrid programs.

AARO’s public line has focused on airborne objects, sensors, and balloon/drone prosaic sets; classic abductions sit outside their primary product. Pentagon spokespeople do not brief “greys in the house.”

AARO / hearings: Public AARO products emphasize aviation safety, sensor data, and prosaic resolutions (balloons, drones, optical artifacts). Congressional UAP hearings elevated whistleblowers and retrieval claims — still not a validated CE-4 briefing. When lawmakers talk “non-human biologics,” Cosmolink files the quote and waits for chain-of-custody science.

Official view in one line: unexplained sensors are discussable; bedroom abductions are not an endorsed category of DoD fact.

Cosmolink take Post-2017 opened the sky-sensor conversation. Abduction remains the hardest sell — and the most human. Official silence is not proof of a cover story, and cover stories are not proved by silence.

• ET biological / survey — sampling, genetics, long-term monitoring (experiencer + Sitchin-adjacent lore).
• Vallée control system — phenomenon as teacher/manipulator of culture across centuries.
• Ultraterrestrial / interdimensional — not space neighbors but co-inhabitants of a stranger physics.
• Psychosocial — sleep paralysis, false memory, hypnosis artifact, media contagion.
• MILABS / human covert — some experiencers blame human programs mimicking alien theater (Cash–Landrum helicopters feed this lane).

Working through the list

ET biological: Predicts tissue, implants with exotic isotopes, consistent morphology. Mostly missing in public science. Control system (Vallée): Predicts folklore continuity, absurdity, teaching theater — fits some CE-4 weirdness better than aerospace. Ultraterrestrial: Hard to falsify; keep as metaphysics unless it yields instruments. Psychosocial: Explains hypnosis clusters and media waves; struggles with multi-witness police-tape cases unless expanded carefully. MILABS: Predicts human tech, helicopters, radiation — Cash–Landrum is the exhibit; boarding greys are a stretch without more.

Since 2017, sensor-driven UAP talk made “adults in the room” safer — but motives for bedroom visitations are still theology and psychology as much as aerospace.

Stigma shift: After December 2017, members of Congress, Navy pilots, and legacy program managers could say “UAP” on camera without ending careers. Abduction experiencers benefited indirectly — more podcast oxygen, more therapists willing to listen — while official products still avoided validating bedroom visitations. Cosmolink’s read: the Overton window moved for sensors and safety-of-flight; CE-4 remains the frontier where evidence standards are hardest and folklore densest.

What would move Cosmolink’s needle

Experiencer politics

CE-4 communities split between spiritual positive (teaching greys), trauma-centered (violent exams), and MILABS (human perps in alien costume). Those splits are sociological facts on this desk. They shape which cases get amplified and which get ignored. Cosmolink’s job is not to pick a church — it is to keep method visible when churches argue.

1. Map the incident and name the witnesses.
2. Separate police/military paperwork from hypnosis transcripts.
3. Describe beings as reported — do not force one species.
4. Read Vallée before you baptize every case as nuts-and-bolts ET.
5. File MJ-12 and Wilson–Davis as contested document culture.
